The Albany Medical Center Hospital was found liable in a wrongful death case in which Thomas Meehan, a popular town supervisor, died.

Meehan,61, went into the hospital for a hip replacement surgery on November 11, 2009. the next day he was doing physical therapy. On The 13th and 14th he was still a patient at the hospital and began to have episodes of shortness of breath and an elevated heart rate, which is a classic sign of the start of a pulmonary emboli.

Mr. Meehan died on November 15th. The cause of death was a blood clot in his lungs.

The wrongful death lawsuit against the hospital was recently settled for $1.4 million.
