In a new study done by the Department of Health and Human Services showed that one out of every seven hospitalized Medicare patients were harmed because of mistakes made in treatment. Some of the treatment errors were things like excessive bleeding after surgery and UTI’s, but in some cases death occured.
The estimation is that about 15,000 deaths a month are in direct relation to the mistakes made by doctors and nurses and the number of deaths per year is estimated at about 180,000. The American Hospital Association says that this number must be reduced and that they are committed to lowering it.
