“The fireworks just went off and we had no idea why,” says Steve Stoll.

“Everyone was talking about it, saying what they saw. We weren’t able to go back to our seats at the time being,” says witness Jessica Kramer.

No word on what caused the explosion or how serious the workers injuries were.

Wrongful death filed in furniture store explosion | Toledo, Ohio Wrongful Death Attorney

April 21st, 2011 Author: Ashley

The families of the man and woman killed in a furniture store explosion in Wayne, Michigan have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Consumers Energy. In the suit, filed in state court, it was alleged that Consumers Energy, supplier of gas to the furniture store and surrounding neighborhood, was negligent in not evacuating the area after residents complained of a gas smell. Evacuations began after the blast.

Consumers Energy received two calls on December 29th, the first at 6:40 and the last at 7:40 a.m.  The technician was still in the area when the furniture store exploded at 9 a.m., trapping the store’s owner, and killing two of his employees. The owner was injured, but survived.

I understand that the gas leak, which was located near the store, was at a pipe coupling, and that the gas likely seeped into a nearby sewer main that serviced the furniture showroom. The piece of pipe is at a testing lab, according to Consumers Energy.

A wrongful-death lawsuit has been filed against Pacific Gas & Electric Co. by the parents of Jessica Morales, one of eight people who died in the inferno from the San Bruno gas pipeline explosion. The wrongful-death lawsuit alleges that there has been “a long list of PG&E incidents and safety lapses.” The Complaint criticizes the utility for its “sluggish” response to the September 9th incident and alleges that the pipeline was overpressurized at the time of the explosion and that PG&E failed to maintain or properly inspect the pipe or install automatic or remote shutoff valves.

Family receives $2 million in wrongful death case | Toledo, Ohio Wrongful Death Attorney

April 14th, 2011 Author: Ashley

A jury in California awarded $2 million to the family of a woman killed in an accident at the intersection of two state highways. The jury found that the intersection was “a dangerous condition of public property.” The case arose out of an accident that claimed the life of Suzanna Coronado. Her and her husband Michael, who survived the accident, were riding a motorcycle southbound on one of the highways when a driver, Alexander Huerta, pulled out from an intersecting highway.

Mrs. Coronado’s four children and her husband sued the State of California Department of Transportation alleging that the intersection where the accident occurred was in a dangerous condition on the day of the accident. The city, Caltrans, implemented a safety improvement project at the intersection a year after the accident.

Heirloom Cribs: Are They Safe? | Toledo, Ohio wrongful death lawyer

December 30th, 2010 Author: Emmy

Using an heirloom crib is an idea that you may have considered for your child or maybe thought that it was a cute idea, but are they safe?

The fact is heirloom cribs will not meet all of the current safety standards and may also be in disrepair. Sometimes, the damages to the crib are not immediately seen. It is suggested that you actually  is to avoid any crib that was made before 2000. Another safety tip in purchasing your crib is to make sure you buy the mattress at the same time you purchase the crib to ensure a snug fit. If you can fit two fingers in between the mattress and the crib, then the mattress is too small and therefore will be unsafe for your baby.

Another problem with heirloom cribs is that they may be coated with lead-base paint. This actually could also be an issue in newer cribs as well so it is crucial that before purchasing any crib you check to see if it is on recall.

50 babies die every year from suffocation or from being strangled due to  broken cribs or a design flaw in older cribs, and many more are injured. Although heirloom cribs may seem like a good idea, it is a gamble on your child’s safety that you do not want to take.
