October 7th, 2010 Author: Anneke

In May of 2007 Joshua Petrie was working as a plant operator at Quicksilver Resources, which is a gas processing plant. On May 27 he tried to start a hot oil heater at the plant. After a few attempts at doing this the the heater exploded. He was taken to the hospital with trauma to his head and chest. The next day he passed away.

Hanover Compression, which is the previous owner of the plant was sued along with Quicksilver Resources. The case stated that both had a responsibility to make sure things were properly installed and up to safety standards and regulations. If Hanover had properly installed safety valves and purge systmes this problem could have been avoided. Both Hanover and Quicksilver had been on notice since 2005 about the fact that they did not have these two things installed.
