Following the heat-related deaths of two men entrusted to her care, Pamela Shay has been charged with two counts each of involuntary manslaughter and recklessly failing to provide for a functionally impaired person. If she is convicted she faces up to 23 years in jail.

Shay owned a group home, Angel Arms, which is now closed. The two men, Thomas Calhoun and John Jones, lived in that facility and both died in 2008. The room they shared was measured at 90.5 degrees when police arrived on the scene on June 9, 2008.

The Ohio Department of Health issued a report stating that the men were not checked on, medicated or fed until around 1 p.m.

The group home closed on October 29, 2008.

Ohio nursing home accidents can be devastating. Our Findlay, Ohio nursing home abuse lawyers see horrible cases where elders are mistreated, neglected, and abused, often without a family member finding out before it’s too late.

According to the Jere Beasley Report, a Philadelphia jury returned a verdict for $5 million in punitive damages last month against Jeanes Hospital and a Wyncote nursing home in the death of a man who developed ultimately fatal bedsores while at both facilities. The damages - $1.5 million against Jeanes and $3.5 million against the Hillcrest Convalescent Home - came two weeks into the second phase of the trial after the same jury awarded $1 million in compensatory damages in the case.
