Heirloom Cribs: Are They Safe? | Toledo, Ohio wrongful death lawyer

December 30th, 2010 Author: Emmy

Using an heirloom crib is an idea that you may have considered for your child or maybe thought that it was a cute idea, but are they safe?

The fact is heirloom cribs will not meet all of the current safety standards and may also be in disrepair. Sometimes, the damages to the crib are not immediately seen. It is suggested that you actually  is to avoid any crib that was made before 2000. Another safety tip in purchasing your crib is to make sure you buy the mattress at the same time you purchase the crib to ensure a snug fit. If you can fit two fingers in between the mattress and the crib, then the mattress is too small and therefore will be unsafe for your baby.

Another problem with heirloom cribs is that they may be coated with lead-base paint. This actually could also be an issue in newer cribs as well so it is crucial that before purchasing any crib you check to see if it is on recall.

50 babies die every year from suffocation or from being strangled due to  broken cribs or a design flaw in older cribs, and many more are injured. Although heirloom cribs may seem like a good idea, it is a gamble on your child’s safety that you do not want to take.

$3.5 Million Awarded in Wrongful Death Trucking Accident | Toledo, Ohio wrongful death attorney

December 30th, 2010 Author: Emmy

A car was driving down I-64 in Norfolk, VA when it started to have trouble with its tire. The vehicle  was forced to slow down to 25 mph. A tractor-trailor that was driving behind it failed to see this vehicle slow down and rear ended the car. Both vehicles caught fire and the young man, who was a passenger in the car, died.

The defense tried to argue that the vehicle in front of the truck driver did not have their hazards on even though they were driving at a very slow speed. They stated that this put the driver of the car at fault instead of the truck driver.

In return the plaintiffs argued that the truck driver had not been adequately treating his diabetes. They won the case and were awarded $3.5 million in settlement.

August 9, 2010 in Delray Beach, Florida Haile Brockington was left in a Day Care van for hours. Amanda Inman was the driver of the van and had left her in her car seat because she did not see Haile in there.

According to Florida law, drivers transporting children must keep a log and  two other people besides the driver must sign off on the log after a physical sweep of the vehicle is done. The director of the facility admits to signing off on the log without actually looking in the vehicle.

Haile was two years old when this occurred and was in the sweltering van for hours. The temperatures in the van rose to more than 130 degrees while she was in there. Unfortunately, Haile died as a result of the Day Care’s negligence. The father of Michael Jackson has refiled a wrongful death suit against the doctor of his late son. In a seperate criminal matter the doctor, Conrad Murray, has pleaded not guilty to involuntary manslaughter.

Joe Jackson claims that there is still “much to discover” about Michael’s death, but that the main complaint against the doctor is the unhealthy administration of the drug propofol. Joe Jackson also claims that the pharmacy involved sold Dr. Murray excessive quantities of the drug, which is usually only used in a hospital setting.

Initial action on the case happened on June 25, the anniversary of Michael’s death, but a judge ruled that it should be filed in state court rather than federal court. The refiling occured on December 1, 2010.
