A car accident in April of 2009 along Interstate 81 claimed the lives of two men. The accident occurred when a tractor trailer operated by Thomas Miller rear ended the Hyundai in front of him who had slowed down to accommodate the reduced speed of traffic due to an earlier accident still being cleaned up.

Sadly both driver and passenger in the Hyundai died at the scene of the accident. The first settlement was reached in December for the Estate of Ramiro Vicente- Atjun who was 35 years-old when he died. The ruling was for $624,000.

The second settlement was reached on January 28. The settlement is for the passenger who died in the accident, 27 year-old Hilario Guox Vicente. The beneficiary for Mr. Vicente’s estate is his 4 year-old daughter. She will receive $425,000 up front that will be put in a trust as well as monthly payments of $1,200 until she is 18, $40,000 annually for five years after that and then $569 a month for life. The payout could eventually top $1 million.
