Power lines investigated after death | Toledo Ohio wrongful death attorney
The attorney representing the family of a woman killed by fallen power lines is demanding an investigation by the Public Utility Commission. The investigation will look into FirstEnergy Corp’s procedures.
The attorney claims that FirstEnergy’s procedures for cleaning conductors is against manufacturer’s instructions, which can wear down on the wire’s tenacity. The improper training is what lead to Ms. Goretzka’s death in June of 2009.
Ms. Goretzka died three days after a 7,200 volt wire fell and struck her in her backyard. She was shocked by the wire and caught on fire. Before the wire could even be removed from her body the power company had to be called out.
According to the lawsuit, the line fell because the conductor was not cleaned properly before it was connected, which caused oxides to pile up and overheat. Th lawsuit states that First Energy Corp is at fault for his accident because they were negligent in the proper procedures to prevent this accident.
