The Emeritus Corporation, operator of Emeritus at Canton has recently been found responsible by a federal jury for the death of a resident. Emeritus at Canton, which is formerly The Landing at Canton, is an assisted living and senior living facility. Emeritus Corporation is the operator of many of these facilities across Ohio and the United States.

Emeritus was found liable for the claims filed against them by the children of Dorothy Freudman. Dorothy was 80 years old and living in the facility when a nurse violated the company policy by leaving her medication on her bedside table while she was sleeping. It was not until more than three hours later that employees discovered Mrs. Freudman unconscious.

The nurses called for an ambulance and she was taken to the hospital. Upon admission into the hospital it was discovered that Dorothy had extremely low blood sugar levels and had suffered from brain damage. After being in a coma for several days, she remained in a semi-comatose state for more than a year until her death.

Dennis Freudman, Dorothy’s son, filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Emeritus Corporation after his mother’s death in 2008.
