A fatal Ohio vehicle accident happened in Wood co. on August 18, 2010 at around 7:30 p.m. A 2000 Lincoln LS was traveling westbound on Greensburg Pike when it failed to yield at a stop sign and struck another vehicle. The driver of the Lincoln was taken from the scene to the hospital and found to have been drunk at the time of the accident. The other driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The worker lost his life when a recently constructed wall blew over in high winds. The identity of the worker has not yet been released.

A burst of high wind blew a 10-foot-tall wall over in the morning hours. It was part of an addition to the high school that will create kindergarten through eighth grade classrooms.

The National Weather Service said the gust of wind was a “microburst,” not a tornado.

OSHA is currently investigating the accident.

Sharon Beebe, a 66-year-old patient at Mercy St. Vincent Medical Center, lost her life Sunday after she fell though a fourth-floor window in her room. Her fall appears to have been an accident.

Staff at the nearby nurse’s station heard the noise around 9:40 p.m. Beebe was scheduled to be released Monday.

She was found on a first-floor roof by rescuers and was pronounced dead in the emergency room a short time later.

Ahjzanae was collecting rocks outside her apartment with her brother and another child when she became trapped between the enclosed parking lot’s mechanical gate and its control box. She died of compressive asphyxia because she was wedged into such a tight space, according to a Lucas County deputy coroner.

There is still no indication of how the gate was activated or how she got stuck.

Wallick-Hendy Properties, the company that manages the apartment complex where the accident occurred, says this was the first accident involving an electric gate at one of its properties.

According to a quote from city Law Director Adam Loukx in the Toledo Blade, the city of Toledo has no liability in this accident because “the city does not own, control or operate the building.”

That same Toledo Blade article states that two girls in the United Kingdom were recently killed in similar accidents. Karolina Golabek, 5, and Semelia Campbell, 6, both lost their lives after becoming stuck in automatic gates.

She was playing with her younger brother and another child near the mechanical gate of her Museum Place apartment when the gate opened and trapped her between it and its control box.

There is no sign so far of how the gate was activated, as no cars tried to enter or leave the parking lot around the time of the accident. The gate can be opened either by a car driving over a control pad or by a device similar to a garage door opener.

There is an electronic eye on the gate that can tell when there is an object in its path, but its position prevented it from detecting the girl.

The Fremont News Messenger reported that Nate Kern, a B&W Welding employee, was part of a group of employees who were replacing columns that support the roof on a 2,000-square-foot building when a 20-by-20-foot section of roof collapsed around 1:40 p.m.

B&W employees Mark Keckler and Todd Michael, as well as Fremont Company employee David Fisher were also hurt in the accident.

Many times, however, children slip under the water silently. Even people in the pool have reported hearing nothing out of the ordinary during drowning incidents.
