Family of Linda Hicks Sues City and Police Officer | Northwest Ohio wrongful death lawyer
The family of Linda Hicks, who was fatally shot by a Toledo police officer last December, is suing several parties over her death.
The 62 year old woman was living in an adult group home. She was schizophrenic and became agitated when she did not take her medication and had a pair of scissors. Her caretaker then called 9-1-1. When the police arrived they tasered her she became more agitated and lunged with the scissors. This is when Officer Diane Chandler fatally shot Linda Hicks. Family members say Chandler did not need to use deadly force.
Charles Boyk said, “The Toledo Police has special crisis intervention police officers. Those people were not dispatched to the scene. That’s our issue.”
The defendants in this case are the City of Toledo for violation of civil rights and wrongful death; the Toledo Police Department for violation of civil rights and wrongful death; Officer Diane Chandler, in her individual capacity for violation of civil rights, gross negligence, assault, battery and wrongful death; and Marria’s Adult Family Home for negligence and wrongful death.
