The parents of a 6-year-old boy who was killed by being run over by a school bus have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the school district.

In January of 2011 the little boy exited the school bus and went to cross the street to go home. According to the lawsuit, the bus driver waited less than 5 seconds after he stopped the bus before it began moving again. The front of the bus hit the boy and then ran over him with the rear tires striking him in the head.

The bus driver, 78, was sentenced to 5 years of probation and is barred from driving.

On Wednesday, May 2, 2012, 13 people were charged for their roles in the hazing death of Florida A&M University drum major, Robert Champion, 26. Champion died aboard a chartered bus parked outside an Orlando Hotel, as a result of being severely beaten during a ritual.

According to authorities, Champion was severely beaten by band members in November and had bruises on his chest, arms, shoulder and back. Witnesses said that he had been vomiting before he was found unresponsive.

State Attorney Lawson Lamar has stated that 11 of the 13 people will face a hazing resulted charge, which is a third-degree felony. If they are convicted, each could face up to nearly six years in prison. The other two involved will face a misdemeanor charge.

It is possible that prosecutors will attempt to file more serious charges such as manslaughter and/or second-degree murder.
