December 16th, 2009 Author: Anneke

Traffic accidents are the leading cause of childhood death and injury; they kill about 260,000 children a year and injure about 10 million more. Children between the ages of 10 to 19 are largely represented in this number. There are a few simple safety tips and precautions you can take to greatly reduce your chances to in being a part of this statistic.

1.) Pay attention!! Obey posted traffic signs, they are there to help warn you of what may be ahead such as a winding road or a sharp left turn.

2.) Drive according to the road conditions. Use slower speeds during rainy or snowy weather; wet roads greatly increase the required distance to break safely.

3.) Wear your seatbelt. They will not only keep you safe in an accident but could help you prevent one.

4.) Don’t tailgate. Try to keep as much distance between you and other vehicles, this includes driving next to another car.

5.) Pay extra attention in parking lots, this is the area where most traffic injuries happen. There is a higher volume of people around and therefore there is a much higher risk of vehicle-pedestrian accidents.

Why are car accidents highest among teens? Part I | Ohio tragic death lawyers

August 27th, 2009 Author: Anneke

According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, fatal car accidents occur most frequently for drivers aged 16 to 19 years of age. Why does this happen?

The California Department of Motor Vehicles took a look at the teen driver crash risks, and found that contributing factors to the high rate of fatal car accident involving teens included:

The inability to detect hazards - this skill comes with time, as the driver spends more and more time behind the wheel. New drivers are not able to fully recognize when there is a hazard in their surroundings.

Low risk perception - Teen drivers are not only more likely NOT to recognize a hazard, but they are also more likely to take risks while behind the wheel. This makes for a dangerous combination of decision making that can lead to fatal car accidents.

Want to read the other factors that can lead to fatal teen car accidents? Read “Why are car accidents highest among teens? Part II” in our next blog.

We urge parents to talk to their teens about safe driving techniques, and smart decision making. Encourage your teen to get a lot of driving practice while you are in the car, and be open about the hazards that car arise behind the wheel.

Tiffin, Ohio car accident lawyer records new video on intra-family exclusions

April 17th, 2009 Author: Anneke

Even though you buy full coverage auto insurance to protect you and your family in an Ohio car accident doesn’t mean that you will be fully covered.

Our Toledo, Ohio car accident lawyers see cases where an Intrafamily Exclusion is deeply written in an auto policy, which denies coverage if the Ohio car accident is caused by a family member. Many families do not know that their full coverage policy contains this exclusion - even though they pay extra money for what they think is full coverage.

Our Toledo, Ohio car accident lawyers urge drivers to double check with their insurance agents to see if this clause is present in their policy. If it is, make arrangements to change coverages. An Ohio car accident is jut that - an accident. Everyone should be entitled to compensation after an Ohio car accident, regardless of who causes it.
